The BBC's controller of TV platforms Rahul Chakkara has joined TalkTalk in a newly-created role of director of online.
Chakkara, who was involved in the development of BBC iPlayer and IPTV joint venture Project Canvas, left the corporation on Wednesday to join TalkTalk.
In his new role, Chakkara will take responsibility for all TalkTalk's online properties, including its website, portal, forums and online sales operation.
The TalkTalk portal receives around 8.5 million unique users every month for a range of news, lifestyle and entertainment content.
"We are delighted to have Rahul on board to head up our online operations - he brings a wealth of experience and will play a key role in developing our online strategy and helping us better serve our growing customer base," said TalkTalk senior director Max Alexander.
Prior to joining the BBC, Chakkara was a marketing director at digital TV company NDS Group and an associate director at Procter & Gamble.
