Published Friday, Sep 2 2005, 19:50 BST | By James Welsh
Ireland's Competition Authority is to launch an investigation into the acquisition of NTL Ireland by UGC.
UGC is part of John Malone's Liberty Global group and already owns another Irish cable operator, Chorus. Because of this, the Competition Authority will investigate whether the potential merger of NTL Ireland and Chorus is anti-competitive.
The investigation should be complete by the end of the year.
