Channel 4 joins Flextech bidding

Channel 4 has entered the bidding for Telewest content arm Flextech, according to The Times.
The auction now includes almost every major UK broadcaster, including ITV, Five owners RTL, John Malone's Liberty Media and Hallmark owners Sparrowhawk Media.
Telewest now faces a decision on how to proceed with the bids. Some believe that the company is not intending to sell Flextech at all; instead, the process is viewed as an elaborate valuation exercise for the benefit of merger partner NTL, who is keen to sell the asset off.
"If something was truly for sale we would definitely look at it," said ITV chief exec Charles Allen yesterday. "But I'm still not convinced it's for sale... there's a process in place and we have registered to be part of that process."
