On July 24 and July 25, the Sky 3D channel will broadcast live coverage of the semi-finals and the final from the tournament at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
The 3D darts coverage will involve Sky placing an additional seven camera rig at the venue, including two cameras about the "size of ice cubes" above the dartboard to capture the shots.
Darts will become the fifth sport that Sky has broadcast live in 3D, after football, rugby union and cricket, along with rugby league (Super League) planned for later in July.
Sky Sports commentator Sid Waddell, who has been involved in televised darts for over 30 years, described the 3D move as a "revolution in darts TV broadcasting".
"For years I've described our coverage as resembling a rock 'n' roll concert on your telly," he said.
"Now it's going to resemble a rock 'n' roll concert in your pub - I can't wait!"
The 3D darts coverage will be available in around 1,000 participating pubs and clubs throughout the UK and Ireland.
Sky will also air live coverage from the World Matchplay tournament in standard and high definition on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD.
