When he joins the corporation, Danker will take up the newly created position of general manager for programmes and on-demand.
Reporting to head of FM&T Erik Huggers, he will lead a team responsible for the design and build of the BBC's online TV and radio services, including iPlayer.
The new role is part of Hugger's restructure of the FM&T team following the departure of Anthony Rose to become chief technology officer of IPTV joint venture Project Canvas.
"The BBC iPlayer has transformed the way people interact with media in the UK," Danker told Broadband TV News.
"The BBC is uniquely positioned to drive the next wave of change through its roles in content creation and distribution.
"We will focus on the innovations that become possible when content production and consumer experience evolve together."
Based in Paris, Danker is currently director of architecture and development at Microsoft, including responsibility for the firm's set-top box IPTV system Mediaroom.
Yesterday, the new version of BBC iPlayer went live, offering a refreshed design, personalisation options and links to social media services.
