Post-merger NTL: target for takeover?

A group of private equity companies are considering making a bid for NTL after it completes its merger with Telewest, the Sunday Times reported today.
The paper reports that the companies, which include Apax Partners and Cinven, have started discussions with banks in order to fund a bid. Such a transaction could be worth in the region of £8bn if Virgin Mobile were to merge with NTL.
