No full details have been released in terms of when the service will be launched, but industry experts have predicted it could be as early as later this month.
The 'free' music streaming website revealed on its official website: "The award-winning music service that's taken Europe by storm will soon be landing on US shores. Millions of tracks ready to play instantly, on your computer and your phone."
Spotify is said to have been given the backing by Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, as well as the four major music companies (Sony, EMI, Warner and Universal).
Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor welcomed the news, tweeting: "Finally! Spotify is coming to the US. I've been using this for a while and it's great."
Spotify also announced a digital music service with Virgin Media, that will enable users to stream music through their televisions earlier today.
