Freeview 'to overtake' satellite by Christmas

Freeview will overtake satellite as the primary digital service of choice by the end of the year, a new report has predicted.
According to data from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), DTT is now in 27.3% of TV households, a rise from 3.5% in the last three years.
Satellite is still ahead, with primary reception in 31.5% of homes, but has risen from 25.3% over the same period.
If uptake of both platforms continues at current rates, DTT will exceed satellite in the fourth quarter of this year.
Jim Marshall, chairman of the IPA Media Futures Group, praised the growth of DTV in the UK but warned that the number of analogue-only homes - 33.8% - was too high.
"With around two years until the start of analogue switch off, it's worrying that still a third of UK homes have chosen not to ‘go digital’," he said. "This could represent a serious challenge to the government's plans for analogue switch off.”
