Amazon's movies subscription service LoveFilm has today expanded its digital distribution footprint by launching an application on Apple's iPad.

LoveFilm subscribers can now stream films such as The Wrestler and The Chronicles of Narnia on their iPad or iPad 2 tablet computers via a dedicated app.

The service allows users to rewind, pause and fast-forward movie streams over WiFi, as well as view trailers for new movies and add titles to their preferred rental list.

From September 30, iPad users will also have exclusive streaming access to titles such as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and RED starring Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren.

The iPad launch is part of LoveFilm's digital distribution strategy, including previous expansions onto connected TV products and Sony's PS3 console.

Yesterday, the company agreed a digital streaming content deal with StudioCanal, joining its existing agreements with Disney, eOne, Icon, Lionsgate, MGM and Warner Bros.

Simon Calver, the chief executive of LoveFilm, said: "In the process of making our service more portable than ever before, LoveFilm on iPad is the latest exciting step in giving film fans total control over their viewing schedule and our commitment to expanding the ways in which members can stream movies on a range of devices."

Amazon, which acquired LoveFilm earlier in the year, yesterday unveiled the Kindle Fire, its new cut-price tablet computer that will go head-to-head with the iPad.
