The device warded off strong competition from the iPhone 4, marking the first time in three years that an Apple or HTC handset has failed to win in the category.
"Not content with pretty much owning internet search, Google has turned Android into a real threat to Apple's dominance on both mobiles and tablets," the judges stated.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 motion control hardware Kinect was named 'Gadget of the Year', while the console itself was dubbed 'Gaming Gadget of the Year'.
"The Kinect is not only an amazing gadget for today, it's a mouth-watering technological prospect for tomorrow too," said T3 editor Luke Peters.
Apple's iPad 2 was named as the 'Best Tablet' on the market, while Amazon's Kindle was identified as the 'Best Commuter Gadget'. RIM's BlackBerry Bold 9780 was dubbed the 'Best Word Gadget'.
Samsung was also awarded 'Television of the Year' for its 8000 Series. Rival firm Apple took home three awards in total.
Twitter was voted 'Best Digital Media Service', and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg took the gong for 'Gadget Personality'.
