London welcomes first remote controlled Black Cab

Londoners today were given a potential look into the future as the world's first remote controlled Black Cab pulled up outside the O2 Arena in Greenwich.



Dubbed the "ultimate boys' toy", the full-size remote controlled car was created by Dr James Brighton to mark the launch of Driving Wars, the new extreme driving show premiering on Dave next Wednesday.

Dr Brighton and the Driving Wars team spent two months setting up the cab up so that it can be controlled remotely with a handheld console.

Users are able to control all the braking, acceleration and steering of the nearly two-tonne vehicle that can hit 80 miles per hour.

Presented by Colin Murray, Driving Wars will invite members of the public to recreate classic motoring moments from television and cinema using remote controlled, full-size cars.



Dave, the digital channel operated by UKTV, said that the show will deliver "a heady cocktail of burnt rubber, squealing tyres and spectacular pyrotechnics".

"By stepping back from actually having to drive the cars, even the most timid drivers find themselves power sliding through the corners with supreme confidence," the channel added.

A year ago, Virgin Media kitted out a range of supercars including Ferraris and Aston Martins as Black Cabs to celebrate the launch of its superfast 100Mbps broadband service.
