Ofcom research has suggested that customers are more satisfied with their mobile phone service than their broadband or landline providers.

The communications regulator noted that seven out of ten mobile phone owners were happy with their supplier, while only six out of ten broadband and landline users gave positive feedback.

Ofcom's study involved conducting interviews with 3,000 service users during September. The participants were asked if they had contacted their supplier within the past three months, and whether the outcome was satisfactory.

Sky topped the list of customer satisfaction in the broadband and landline categories. Ofcom reported that the broadcaster's service has improved since 2009, as has BT's, and Talk Talk's.

The majority of landline-related calls were inquires about changing service packages. Connection speed was the biggest issue in the broadband category.

O2, Orange and T-Mobile led the way in the mobile sector with 72% satisfaction rating, significantly higher than the leaders in their landline and broadband counterparts.

"Ofcom hopes that this research will both incentivise providers to improve all aspects of their customer service, as well as giving consumers valuable information about the standards of customer service when choosing a provider," said Ofcom's Claudio Pollack.

Ofcom regulations state that service providers must address user queries within eight weeks. Customers made to wait longer may present their case to an independent ombudsman.
