The platform holder is revamping the service to allow "app-centric sharing" and better HTML5 support in response to user feedback.
Other new features include improved file management, enhanced CSS transitions and additional photo options, such as geo-tagging support.
SkyDrive was launched by Microsoft in 2007 as part of its Windows Live range of online services. The platform offers users 25 GB of free cloud storage. Individual files are limited to 100 MB.
Following the update, users are able to share documents in Office Web Apps without exiting the programme and view PDF files within SkyDrive. Drag and drop support has also been implemented for HTML5 file API browsers.
Users can sign up for free SkyDrive accounts via the service's website.
