The The Next Web reports that the computing giant will open up the operating system to the public domain in February 2012.
Microsoft is expected to release the full version of the OS next year, but is yet to announce specific dates. A developer preview build was rolled out in September.
Windows 8 will be available for both desktop and laptop PCs. A tablet edition called Windows 8 Metro will also be released, with Dell, HP and Nokia rumoured to be prepping slates powered by it.
Samsung previously announced that it is developing a modified version of its Series 7 laptop, optimised to run Windows 8.
It has been speculated that a February public beta could put Windows 8 on course for a September debut.
