BlackBerry PlayBook gets price cut in UK

Blackberry Playbook
Research in Motion (RIM) has announced a price reduction for its BlackBerry PlayBook in the UK market.

The 16GB version of the tablet now costs £169 in the territory, while the 32GB and 64GB models are available at £199 and £329, respectively.

RIM launched the BlackBerry PlayBook in the UK seven months ago, with the 16GB version priced at £399. The manufacturer previously slashed the price of the device in North America following below-par sales.

HP's TouchPad saw a sales surge in the UK market when the firm reduced its price to £89 ($99). Sony is rumoured to be lowering the cost of its Tablet S in the region following a price cut in the US.

Apple's iPad is the world's bestselling tablet by a significant margin, though the device is facing increasing competition from Amazon's Kindle Fire. Earlier today, it was reported that Google is planning a move into the sector.

The BlackBerry PlayBook is available in the UK under the new price structure for selected retailers, including Carphone Warehouse and PC World.
