Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem's (DECE) system aims to provide a one-stop shop for cloud-based content, enabling users to "buy once, play anywhere".
"We're very excited about the additional possibilities from a customer's point of view that UV enables," Amazon's EVP of digital Bill Carr said during a CES panel.
DECE revealed that UV has attracted 750,000 users in its first three months of operations. The system went live in the UK on Boxing Day with the DVD and Blu-ray release of Final Destination 5, but has been around in North America for longer.
UV offers customers enduring digital rights to movies and TV shows, allowing them to access that content across various platforms, including PC, Mac, Android and iOS. Up to five people can be added to a single account.
Tesco, Samsung, Nokia, Sky and LoveFilm are among the key supporters of UV. DECE has confirmed that it will announce a common file format for downloads in the coming months to ensure consistency across retailers.
Warner Bros, Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures have all released DVD and Blu-ray titles which include access to the same content via UV.
