iMore claims to have spotted references to the social network in the latest development build of iOS 5.1 Beta 3, fuelling rumours that Apple's next software update will add improved functionality to its devices.
The report also claims that Facebook will appear in the contacts app alongside Twitter, which was given deep integration when iOS 5 was rolled out last year.
iOS 4 was expected to include Facebook integration, but the feature was left out when Apple failed to agree terms with Mark Zuckerberg's company. Enhanced connectivity with Facebook would allow iPhone and iPad owners to upload photos directly to the social network.
iPad 3 code names were allegedly present in iOS 5.1 Beta 3, with the mention of J1AP and J2AP thought to be references to the Wi-Fi and cellular data versions of the tablet device.
The latest rumours suggest that the iPad 3 is being lined up for a March launch.
