Pure has announced that its new cloud-based, on-demand music service, Pure Music, has gone live to UK customers.

Announced last year, Pure Music allows users to stream more than 15 million songs per month on internet-connected radios, smartphones or computers.

The service, which has deals with all the major record labels, is available for a monthly subscription of £4.99, but Pure is offering the first month free for a limited time to mark the launch.

Pure said that functionality in Pure Music to cache songs to a mobile device for offline playback will be made available soon for an additional monthly fee.

The company claims to have received "overwhelming support" for Pure Music from the music industry, including labels, publishers and artists.

The service is one of the many initiatives attempting to offer a legal music download option to users, which also compensates the artists for their work. It will compete with the likes of Spotify, Deezer and We7.

However, various companies have struggled to make cloud-based music services work, including the part News Corp-backed Beyond Oblivion folding this month before it had even launched.

Alongside subscriptions, Pure will look to monetise Pure Music by bundling the service with its audio products, including radios and wireless music systems, such as the recently launched Pure Sensia 200D Connect.

Pure's director of marketing Colin Crawford said: "Pure has a very broad customer base and Pure Music has been conceived to appeal to the mass market and offer music fans a simple way to find, discover and enjoy any music they want directly on their favourite listening device.

"Forget the hassle of downloading and ripping - just search and enjoy. Both intuitive and easy-to-use, Pure Music has been designed to be at the heart of Pure's expanding and market-leading range of internet-connected radio and audio products."

Pure is also offering the Pure Lounge app for iPhone and Android, providing a recommendations and tagging engine to help subscribers discover new artists. The app is available now for free for a limited time only.
