Samsung has announced the Samsung Galaxy S Advance smartphone.

The mid-range handset is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and comes with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system pre-loaded.

Samsung's Galaxy S Advance also features a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with 480x800p resolution. A front-facing camera offers 1.3-megapixel shots, while the rear-mounted snapper offers 5-megapixels with 720p HD video recording capabilities.

"We are very excited to launch our latest handset from the Galaxy family - the Galaxy S Advance. Our aim is to build on the features we know our customers enjoy and add to the choice of smartphones we offer," said Samsung managing director Simon Stanford.

"Our Galaxy range has proven extremely popular and we have no doubt this latest sleek and powerful addition, with its curved design will be greeted with the same response when it is released in the UK."

The Korean tech giant is yet to announce a price or release date for the device, though it is expected to be showcased at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona (MWC), which takes place between February 27 and March 1.

A new Samsung Galaxy tablet featuring an 11.6-inch screen has also been rumoured for MWC 2012. The so-called Galaxy Tab 11.6 will allegedly have a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 and come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed.

Last week, it was reported that Samsung is "still reviewing" when to officially announce its much-anticipated Galaxy S3 handset.
