Apple is to add a built-in camera to its next-generation iPod Nano, according to a report.

Japanese blog Apple.pro has published leaked photographs of an alleged prototype model of the media player, clearly showing a vacant space for the rumoured 1.3-megapixel snapper.

Earlier models of Apple's iPod Nano have sported integrated cameras, but the feature has been dropped in recent generations. Last year's iteration of the device was rumoured to reintroduce the technology, but it was omitted once again.

The photos suggest the next-generation iPod Nano will retain the same form factor as its predecessor. It is also expected to come in 8GB and 16GB models and see a return of the Nike+ styled motion tracker.

According to MIC Gadget, the latest model's camera has been a source of technical difficulties for Apple, taking over-exposed pictures. The platform holder is said to have been working towards correcting a lens aperture problem for some time.

Apple's next-generation iPod Nano is expected sometime between March and April.
