The 'Child Pad' is a seven-inch screen-toting tablet that runs the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, has a 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.
Archos has created a 'child-friendly' user interface for the tablet featuring coloured icons, big home screen folders and quick access to 28 pre-loaded apps, including Angry Birds, Pig Rush and Flight Frenzy.
Users of the Child Pad can also access a special Kids' App Store, powered by AppsLib, that has 10,000 apps across 14 family-orientated categories, including games, entertainment, books and comics.
"As a pioneer in the portable audio and Android tablet market, we realise the importance of providing a tablet that can offer hours of entertainment for all ages, especially kids," said Henri Crohas, the founder and chief executive of Archos.
"Archos strives to offer great tablets with only the best of features at affordable prices and we expect this tablet to bring a smile to the faces of kids and parents everywhere."
Fully compliant with CIPA and COPPA regulations, the Child Pad is intended to provide a safe tablet environment for kids and "peace of mind" for parents, including full parental controls and safe web-browsing.
The Child Pad will go on sale at the end of March with the recommended retail price of £99.
