Facebook topped the chart for free iPhone apps, followed by Pandora Radio, Words With Friends Free, Skype and the Weather Channel.
Angry Birds was named as the most downloaded premium app for the handset. Gaming applications dominated the category, with Fruit Ninja, Doodle Jump, Cut the Rope and Angry Birds Seasons rounding off the top five.
Angry Birds Free was confirmed as the most popular free iPad app, followed by the Weather Channel, Netflix, Skype and e-books service Kindle.
Apple's word processing software Pages was the bestselling premium app on the tablet, with Angry Birds titles in second and third. Penultimate and Scrabble for iPad took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Apple is expected to unveil a new model of its iPad today at its press event at the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco at 10am PST (6pm GMT).
