CBS, Comcast ink new on demand deal

CBS and Comcast have signed a new VOD agreement, with eight of the network's shows being made available on demand to Comcast digital cable subscribers at no extra cost.
The new deal supersedes an older pact that charged subscribers 99 cents per episode for on-demand viewing. That agreement also restricted on demand availability to markets where there was a CBS owned-and-operated station; the new agreement covers the entire country.
CBS plans to support the service through advertising. Shows will be available 24 hours after their first network broadcast and will remain available for four weeks.
"Early results show that viewers are responding to programming being made available on emerging platforms for free, supported by advertising," said CBS president and CEO Les Moonves. "We're pleased to work with our partners at Comcast to widen our relationship with the audience we share, and at the same time monetize our content through another window, a strategy that will be a key driver of CBS's growth going forward."
CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Survivor, NCIS, Numb3rs, Jericho and Big Brother will be available on the service.
