'Draw Something' rules iPhone and iPad app charts

OMGPOP's Draw Something has continued its incredible rise in mobile by simultaneously topping the paid and free app charts for both Apple's iPhone and iPad, according to official data.

Last week, Pictionary-style social game Draw Something passed a staggering 50m downloads in just 50 days following its launch on mobile and other platforms.

Draw Something players are understood to have made more than six billion drawings across Facebook, Android and Apple iOS, while new drawings are being done at 3,000 per second.

A survey of players of the game by the MyVoucherCodes website has revealed that the average person spends 10 to 30 minutes playing Draw Something every day, while two thirds admit that they have played the game while they were supposed to be working.

OMGPOP, recently acquired by Farmville-maker Zynga in an estimated $200m deal, has now achieved the milestone of topping every app chart on the iPhone and iPad.

Becoming the most popular paid and free app across both Apple's flagship mobile devices is all the more impressive considering it comes after the release of Rovio's popular Angry Birds Space, which hit 10m downloads in just three days.

Other notable new entries to the chart rundown for the week ending April 8 include Britain's Got Talent 2012 at number six on the free iPhone chart, while Gamesloft's Ice Age Village, a game based on the animated movies, reached number eight on the iPad free chart.
