Raspberry Pi pre-orders exceed 350,000

The Raspberry Pi computer has attracted more than 350,000 pre-orders, according to reports.

Distributor RS Components claims to have received more than 250,000 advance sales for the bare-bones PC, with a further 100,000 orders placed through other channels.

Raspberry Pi is a credit card-sized machine that aims to generate interest in programming among school children. The budget device, which runs the Linux OS, comes uncased without keyboard or monitor.

Demand for the £22 device remains high despite issues during production and shipping. Orders for the Raspberry Pi Model B began at the end of February, but delivery was delayed further last month after regulators ordered that it go through proper CE testing.

The micro computer passed through testing without any further modifications, and orders are being fulfilled. Demand for the machine is said to be particularly high in the education sector.

The Raspberry Pi is available to order for £22. A cheaper version priced at £16 will be released later this year.
