iZettle mobile payment service launches

By
iZettle has launched a new payment solution for businesses.

The service consists of a dongle that connects to an iPhone or iPad, enabling the devices to read customers' credit and debit cards like a chip-and-pin machine.

iZettle has already trialled the system in Nordic countries, and is planning to roll it out in the UK by sending a free dongle and software to 3,000 selected firms.

The company is targeting small businesses that have been unable to process card transactions in the past, such as market sellers, taxi drivers, roadside cafes, and more.

iZettle takes a small commission from each transaction, but this will not be at the customer's expense. The service will be initially exclusive to iOS devices, and expanded to Android soon.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey's Square mobile payment company has found success with a similar payment service in the US. PayPal also offers a mobile card reader to help small businesses process transactions.
