ESPN to launch ESPNcricinfo iPad app this summer

By
ESPN has confirmed plans to launch a new iPad app for its cricket service ESPNcricinfo this summer, marking only its third iPad app worldwide to date.

Available for download at the start of England's key test against South Africa in July, the app will provide cricket fans with a 'second screen' experience on the Apple tablet.

Users of the iPad will be able to access all the latest global news, features and information from the ESPNcricinfo website, optimised for the iPad.

Content includes live commentary, scores, match statistics, fixtures, results, tables, player profiles, photo galleries and match graphics.

The app also detects the user's location from where they log on and then provides content and match information relevant to that region.

Users can sign up for push notifications of scores and alerts, and an offline mode allows them to save articles and content for consumption at a later date.

The app is integrated with Facebook, allowing fans to follow games with their friends and share the latest cricket scores or news.

"Mobile media and second screens are now an essential part of how fans stay connected to the sport they love," said Arne Rees, vice president of digital media, ESPN International.

"ESPNcricinfo is well established as the leading digital cricket service and this new app will bring the best of that straight to fans' tablets - wherever they are.

"The ESPNcricinfo iPad is another example of how we look to serve fans on multiple devices with the very best sporting content."

The launch of the ESPNcricinfo iPad app is only ESPN's third worldwide, and the Disney-owned broadcaster's first outside of the US.
