Motorola Mobility has showcased plans for a concept user interface for web-enabled TVs called DreamGallery.
The service will turn television sets into cross-platform media centres, offering connectivity with other devices such as computers, tablets and smartphones.
DreamGallery will also compile on-demand services including Netflix, Lovefilm, YouTube and BBC iPlayer in a single place, as well as provide personalised recommendations and user tools.
Motorola's concept has drawn comparisons with the Google TV platform, giving rise to speculation that it will never see the light of day. Google is on the verge of a takeover of the telecoms company, and it is unknown whether the launch of a competing product will be permitted.
Chinese regulators gave Google the go-ahead to complete its $12.5bn (£7.9bn) acquisition of Motorola earlier this week, allowing the search engine giant to finally move ahead with the buyout.
The agreement sees Google obtain a warchest of more than 17,000 patents, which are vital for it to earn royalties and defend itself and other Android phone makers from patent lawsuits.
