The San Diego, previously codenamed the Orange Santa Clara, is a "feature-packed" phone that marks the tenth anniversary of Orange's portfolio of own-branded devices.
Launching just in the UK and France, the San Diego is powered by the Intel Atom processor Z2460 and will run Google Android Gingerbread, with a planned upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich later in the year.
The phone has an 8 megapixel camera featuring 'Burst' mode, allowing it to take 10 pictures in under a second to ensure users capture all the action.
High-definition (HD) video is fully supported, including 1080p video capture, image stabilisation and HDMI out, as well as mobile HD voice for higher audio quality.
The San Diego comes with a 4.03-inch display, 16GB of memory and weighs just 117g.
Other features on the phone include a preloaded Orange Wednesday app for two-for-one offers on cinema tickets, as well as Orange Gestures for more easily accessing apps and services on the home screen.
"We're proud to be working with such an exciting partner as Intel, and offering our customers the first Orange Intel powered smartphone on the market," said Paul Jevons, the director of products and devices, Orange UK.
"The San Diego is a great addition to our own-branded device portfolio, and is testament to our heritage in offering consumers great value innovation."
Intel's general manager of mobile and communications Mike Bell added: "We congratulate Orange on the launch of their 'San Diego' smartphone with Intel inside.
"Orange is truly a progressive operator who has its finger on the pulse on its customer base. The new Intel-based smartphone exemplifies Orange's focus on delivering a well executed product to its users, from the quality and feel of industrial design to the overall software and applications experience."
Alongside Orange's network, San Diego customers will also get access to T-Mobile's 2G and 3G signals following a programme to seamlessly link both networks under the Everything Everywhere partnership.
The San Diego will be available from June 6 at Orange shops, Orange Orange telesales and the Orange online shop.
The handset will be priced at £199.99 on Orange Pay As You Go, when customers top up by £10 in Orange shops. These customers will also receive a free monthly allowance of 250MB of mobile data for a 12-month period.
Customers taking a 24-month price plan from £15.50 a month will get the handset for free until July 25. After that point, the San Diego will only be free on 24-month plans priced at £20.50, or more.
