Samsung's Galaxy S3 smartphone will receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update before the end of the year, according to a report.

YouMobile cites inside sources claiming that the handset will pick up the new Google operating system during the fourth quarter of 2012.

Jelly Bean was unveiled during Google's I/O conference, where it was announced that the OS will feature an improved interface, sophisticated voice navigation and the new Google Now information service.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Xoom handsets will be the first phones to receive the update, with details of a full rollout expected to be revealed in the near future.

Google also revealed its Nexus 7 tablet during the conference. The 7-inch slate will be released later this month running Jelly Bean.

Jelly Bean succeeds Google's current Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, which launched with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus last year.
