Apple's iPad tablet is rapidly becoming the place for people to watch television when away from the main living room screen.

The market-leading tablet's touchscreen interface and 9.7-inch display is ideal for streaming content, particularly on the newest model with the high resolution Retina display.

Apple kicked off the tablet market in 2010 with the original iPad, but it has taken a while for customers to really get the tablet concept - somewhere between a laptop and a smartphone.

But the devices are starting to really take off in the UK, with tablet ownership rising from just 2% in the opening three months of 2011 to 11% in the same period this year, according to media regulator Ofcom.

This growth is expected to continue as 17% of respondents in an Ofcom survey said that they intended to buy a tablet in the next year.

And despite the portability of tablets, nine out of ten slate users said that they mainly use their device at home, suggesting that television and video viewing is a big favourite.

There are numerous different TV services available on the iPad, either for live and on-demand streaming video, or apps that offer a 'companion' experience to enhance viewing on the main TV.

Join us as we look at five of the top streaming services - BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Channel 4's 4oD, Eurosport Player and Sky Go - in the video below:
