Samsung Galaxy Beam launches in the UK

By
Samsung has launched its Galaxy Beam smartphone in the UK, a new handset that allows users to project images and media content onto flat surfaces.

Announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier in the year, the Samsung Galaxy Beam comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor.

Samsung says the 12.5mm-thick Galaxy Beam features technology that "transforms any room into a mini home-theatre by projecting full-screen video clips, maps, business information and games onto the wall or ceiling".

The integrated projector is capable of 15 lumens of brightness, sufficient for high-definition projections up to 50 inches wide.

A dedicated app with the Galaxy Beam activates the projector, enabling users to share videos and images taken on the phone's 5MP camera, or play games on a surface larger than the Beam's four-inch screen.

The Galaxy Beam also has 8GB of internal memory, 6GB of RAM, a 1.3MP front-facing camera and a 2,000 mAh battery.

"We were delighted by the hugely positive response we received from both customers and media when we first announced the Galaxy Beam at Mobile World Congress back in February," said Simon Stanford, the vice president, UK & IRE Telecommunications & Networks Division, Samsung UK and Ireland.

"It's the kind of device you won't find anywhere else - a high definition projector within a standard sized smartphone - and is great for people who want to watch movies, show photos to friends or need to give a presentation while they're out and about."

The Samsung Galaxy Beam is available now from various retailers SIM-free for around £400. Various network deals are also available, such as a free handset on price plans of £31 per month or upwards at The Carphone Warehouse.
