Tech site iMore reports that sources "who have proven accurate in the past" are claiming Apple will hold a special event on Wednesday, September 12 to announce both new devices along with a new iPod Nano.
The announcement will be followed by the launch of the iPhone 5 on Friday, September 21. Release dates for the iPad Mini and new iPod Nano were not mentioned by the sources, though it seems likely that they could arrive on September 21 along with the new iPhone.
Supposed images of the new iPhone were leaked online earlier today. The new iPhone is said to have a smaller 19-pin connector rather than the current model's 30-pin port, along with the wider 16x9 screen in a longer form factor.
It will also launch with iOS 6, which features new 3D maps, Passport, deeper Facebook integration, an upgrade to Siri and over 200 other enhancements.
The iPad Mini is said to have a 7.85-inch screen and a super-slim frame to compete against similarly sized rivals like Amazon's Kindle Fire and Google's Nexus 7 tablet.
The new iPhone and iPad mini were previously expected to release sometime in October, with this latest rumour suggesting Apple is operating ahead of schedule.
