According to a report, the latest addition to the range is an entry-level device with a 4-inch screen running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Xperia J will reportedly be powered by an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7227a processor, and feature a 5MP camera and 1,700 mAh battery. Its relatively modest specs suggest a budget-friendly price tag.
Sony is expected to unveil the handset, along with other new additions to the Xperia range, at the IFA electronics trade show in Berlin next week.
Current generation entries in the Xperia line include the high-end Xperia S and mid-range Xperia P.
The Sony Xperia J has been tipped for an international release, so is expected to arrive in the UK in the future.
