The moves marks the first time that the computing giant has changed its corporate emblem in 25 years.
Microsoft implemented the design to bring all of its products together under a single banner. In addition to the release of its new OS, the firm will also roll out its Windows Phone 8 platform and Office 2013 software later this year.
The firm is also entering the tablet hardware market with the launch of its Surface slate, and revamping the Xbox 360 experience with new developments such as the SmartGlass dual screen service.
"We're excited about the new logo, but more importantly about this new era in which we're reimagining how our products can help people and businesses throughout the world realise their full potential," said Microsoft's Jeff Hansen.
Microsoft will release Windows 8 in October 26.
