The updated Facebook 5.0 is faster to open than past iterations, and also improves photo viewing and scrolling.
The app now starts up twice as quickly, while the news feed and notifications load as soon as you launch Facebook.
Photos are now said to load "instantly", with the company explaining: "Tap on any photo and it opens right away. Pull down to close it with a single swipe."
Scrolling through the news feed has also been made smoother, and stories appear faster.
Meanwhile, a banner alerting the user to when new stories come in can be tapped once to view the latest updates immediately.
Earlier this week, the US Federal Trade Commission gave the go-ahead for Facebook's takeover of Instagram.
In April, Facebook announced that it was buying the popular photo-sharing app in a cash and stock deal worth more than $1bn (£637m).
