Ohanian told AllThingsD that convincing the US president to take part in the Ask Me Anything (AMA) session was an "easy sell".
"There's not a lot to it," he said. "I've gotten to know quite a few folks in the WH [White House] and Obama campaign team over the years and it was always something I brought up when I got the chance.
"There are quite a few 'Redditors' at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and at the campaign HQ - given the prominence of Reddit, it's an easy sell."
Obama took part in the AMA session on Wednesday evening (August 29), addressing important political topics such as internet freedom and the space programme before the surge in traffic caused the site's servers to crash.
The head of state could only dedicate 30 minutes to the session, which Ohanian conceded was "pretty reasonable" considering his presidential duties.
