Google is reportedly preparing to launch a version of its Nexus 7 tablet computer that supports 3G mobile data.

The seven-inch screen Android slate went on sale in July, but only in WiFi models, meaning users could not use internet-based services on the slate while away from a hotspot.

However, MoDaCo's Paul O'Brien claims that Asus, the manufacturer of the Nexus 7, is preparing a 3G-enabled version of launch in "around six weeks".

Citing a "very well placed insider", he claims that production is already underway, and notes that the 3G version of the Nexus 7 will come with "no other hardware changes".

However, O'Brien does not supply any firm details on the exact launch date or how much the 3G Nexus 7 will cost.
