TV Catchup lands on Google Play

By
TV Catchup has been released for Android devices through Google Play.

The ad-supported application grants UK TV licence payers access to almost 60 free-to-air channels, and can be downloaded at no cost.

Launched in late 2007, the streaming service was initially designed as a web-based PVR enabling users to record one digital terrestrial television programme each week to view online.

The platform sparked complaints from broadcasters claiming rights infringement, which forced the service offline for several months, only for it to re-emerge without the PVR function.

TV Catchup was released for iOS devices in October 2009, but it was hit by a joint legal filing in June 2010 from ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. The ongoing dispute was eventually referred to the European Court.

TV Catchup is now available as a free download from Google Play.
