The man, identified only as Chris F, is using Airtasker - an online service for outsourcing jobs - to find someone willing to queue for him.
Meanwhile, there have been reports that people are already queuing outside the Regent Street Apple Store in London, despite the smartphone not going on sale until 8am on September 21.
Australian Chris F is not keen on queuing up, and so is offering to pay someone else to get to the Sydney Apple Store "really early", and ensure that he doesn't "miss out and end up waiting for months".
"The new iPhone is here and I can't wait to get one! To make sure I don't miss out and end up waiting for months, I need someone to line up really early outside the Apple Store in Sydney," he wrote in his posting.
"If you are assigned you'll need to line up outside the Apple store at 7am sharp, then give me a buzz when you are at the front of the queue so I can rock up and purchase the iPhone 5."
Chris F currently has two people up for the task, with the bidding at AUD 80.
The iPhone 5, the sixth generation of Apple's smartphone, started pre-orders in select markets today, with reports suggesting that the product sold out its initial stock in the US in just 60 minutes.
Anyone pre-ordering the phone now will face an up-to-three-week wait for Apple to ship their handset.
The Daily Mail reports that two men have already started queuing outside Apple's Regent Street store in London, where they face a week-long wait before sales actually begin.
George Horne and Richard Wheatcroft said that they hope to use their place at the top of the queue to raise money for their charity 'The Hope Boutique Bakery', which helps vulnerable women find employment and training.
They reportedly arrived at the store yesterday at 6pm to make sure they were first in line, and they also did not tell their friends or family about the idea.
Wheatcroft said that he was "absolutely buzzing" to be waiting in the queue.
"We'll either be the tightest brothers after this or we'll never want to see each other, or an iPhone, again," he joked, referring to the week wait ahead of him and Horne.
He added: "This is my first Apple product and I'm really excited about it. It is so exciting being here, I'm buzzing.
"My mobile phone was stolen a couple of months ago, soon I will be able to say I have replaced it with the best phone in the world."
