The Cupertino firm is apparently informing customers that lens flare is normal when the device is used against a bright light source, and is advising them to angle the device away from the light when shooting photos.

"Our engineering team just gave me this information and we recommend that you angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures," an AppleCare rep told a customer in an email obtained by Gizmodo.
"The purple flare in the image provided is considered normal behaviour for iPhone 5's camera."
However, Apple has so far declined to comment on the email and is yet to address the issue publicly.
The lens flare came to light shortly after the iPhone 5 was released, with users posting images emblazoned with purple halos on forums across the internet. Apple reportedly vowed to research the matter and establish why it is occurring.
