Microsoft Surface compatible with Xbox 360 controllers

Microsoft's upcoming Surface tablet will be compatible with Xbox 360 USB controllers.

The platform holder confirmed during a Reddit session that the console peripherals can be used for gaming on the slate, but explained that Kinect is yet to be tested with it.

"We used the 360 USB controllers to play with Surface all the time and they work great. We have not tried Kinect yet," said a member of the Surface team.

The Windows 8 tablet will feature USB 2.0 support rather than the more recent USB 3.0 because the previous generation input is compatible for more accessories, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft also explained that data connectivity was excluded from the device because it envisions the majority of people using the tablet at home.

Surface will be available for purchase on October 26 from the Microsoft Online Store in the United States, Canada, Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

In the UK, the Surface will start from £399 for the base 32GB model, while the Touch Cover will cost £99.99 and the Type Cover £109.99. Microsoft has not yet announced UK pricing for the 64GB model.
