Satellite giant Sky has been awarded a 'Green Oscar' for its commitment to environmental issues.
The broadcaster was given the City of London Corporation - Sustainable City Award at a ceremony in London's Mansion House last week.
Sky received praise for its "ongoing and positive contribution to addressing environmental challenges" and for "engaging its customers on practical ways to reduce their carbon footprint and make small changes to reduce their impact on the environment."
Last month, Ben Stimson, Sky's director of corporate responsibility told DS: "Media companies have a significant opportunity here and a responsibility, because they are in conversation with many homes; in Sky's case over 8 million. And that kind of relationship we have with our customers in enabling them to understand what they can do about climate change and the actions that can take, is definitely a role that the media needs to be playing."
As a company, Sky became "carbon-neutral" last year, and began a number of marketing, customer and employee initiatives to promote the issue of climate change, including a website, www.jointhebiggerpicture.com.
