Apple patent victory over Samsung under scrutiny

By
Apple's $1bn patent victory over Samsung in the US is to be probed by a federal court.

District judge Lucy Koh will investigate whether foreman Velvin Hogan "concealed information" during the jury selection following an appeal from Samsung, CNET reports.

Apple has been ordered to disclose how much information its lawyers knew about the foreman ahead of the trial after its Korean rival alleged that it did not receive a fair trial.

Hogan is accused of neglecting to mention that he is being sued by his former employer Seagate, a firm which has a "substantial strategic relationship" with Samsung.

The Galaxy platform holder claims that Hogan's affiliation with Seagate has biased court proceedings and his failure to disclose the relationship constitutes misconduct. However, legal experts have pointed out it is difficult to overturn a jury's decision for supposed misconduct.

Hogan responded to Samsung's allegations by stating that the judge did not request a list of past lawsuits he had been personally involved in.
