"We have placed 149 people at our Preston Farm Business Park in Teesside at risk of redundancy," a Virgin Media spokesperson told the BBC.
"As part of our commitment to keep compulsory redundancies to an absolute minimum, we will be working with everyone affected by today's announcement to identify suitable redeployment opportunities within the business.
"We realise this may be unsettling for employees, but we will do our utmost to redeploy as many affected employees as possible."
Virgin plans to offer those affected roles at other sites including Birmingham, Dudley and Manchester.
