Apple, Samsung verdict under trade agency scrutiny

By
Apple and Samsung's ongoing legal battle in the US has come under scrutiny from the International Trade Commission (ITC).

The trade body has agreed to re-examine whether the iPhone maker is guilty of infringing on its rivals patents in the territory, Reuters reports.

An ITC investigation in September concluded that the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad do not violate the South Korean company's patents, but if the decision is overturned, Apple could face a sales ban in North America.

The patent war between the two firms is showing no sign of abating. Apple won a $1 billion (£630m) patent victory over its competitor earlier this year, but that decision is also under review based on Samsung's claims of jury misconduct.

Apple recently struck up a cross-licensing deal with HTC out of court, but Samsung moved swiftly to dismiss speculation that it could do the same.

Samsung and Apple are currently doing battle in 10 other countries as well as the US.
