The search engine giant will support new hardware alongside its Chromebook hardware, according to China Times (via TheNextWeb).
The Chinese news site claims that two Taiwanese manufacturers - Compal Electronics and Wintek - will build the 12.85-inch laptops for Google.
Google has been eyeing the release of its own hardware since completing its acquisition of Motorola Mobility earlier this year, and is planning to take on Windows 8 and Apple's Mac OS X in the desktop operating system sector.
Samsung, Acer, Asus and LG have previously teamed up with the company to develop its Chromebook and Nexus products.
Initial shipments of parts for the Chrome laptops are reportedly under way, with an launch targeted for early 2013.
