"I apologise for all of the misdirections over the past few days," read a post on his blog. "It was not easy to exit Belize and required many supporters in many countries."
The blog post appeared following a series of rumours that McAfee had been taken into custody by the Belize authorities, who have identified him as a 'person of interest' in relation to the death of Gregory Faull.
Faull was shot in the back of the head just days after filing a complaint about McAfee's guard dogs and bodyguards. The software engineer maintains that he was framed.
McAfee is currently appealing for information that could clear his name, offering a $25,000 reward to anyone who catches Faull's killer.
