John McAfee, the founder of the McAfee security software firm, has been arrested in Guatemala.

Guatemalan interior minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla confirmed to Reuters that the 67-year-old was apprehended by Guatemalan police and a member of Interpol at Guatemala City's Intercontinental Hotel on Wednesday (December 5). He is suspected of entering the country illegally.

McAfee is wanted for questioning in Belize, after authorities identified him as a 'person of interest' in relation to the death of neighbour Gregory Faull on November 10.

McAfee has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and recently appealed for information that could clear his name, offering a $25,000 (£15,500) reward to anyone who catches Faull's killer.

It was reported earlier on Wednesday that McAfee and his girlfriend had fled Belize and that he intended to seek asylum in Guatemala.

There is no international arrest warrant for McAfee, but Guatemalan officials have since confirmed that they intend to have McAfee expelled from their country and back to Belize.
