Instagram photos vanish from Twitter

By
Instagram photographs have vanished from Twitter feeds after the Facebook-owned service dropped support for the site completely.

Users can no longer view Instagram-hosted pictures through their Twitter account, and are now greeted with a white space where the image should appear.

"Instagram has disabled photo integration with Twitter. As a result, photos are no longer appearing in Tweets or user photo galleries," Twitter confirmed in a blog post.

"While tweeting links to Instagram photos is still possible, you can no longer view the photos on Twitter, as was previously the case."

The move is said to have been implemented because Instagram wants users to view photos on its own site, rather than through Twitter. Founder and CEO Kevin Systrom has denied that his firm is involved in a feud with the microblogging site.

Twitter has been gradually restricting access to third-party tweeting software and denying external companies access to user data as the service bids to expand its web presence.

The firm is reportedly planning to bring direct competition to Instagram with the development of its own photo-filtering tools.
